Internet in Spain

Spain offers one of Europe’s most advanced broadband infrastructures, but connection quality can vary depending on region and provider.
Below you’ll find an overview of the main internet options available — from high-speed fibre to rural Wi-Fi and satellite connections.

1. Fibre-Optic (Fibra Óptica)

The fastest and most reliable form of internet in Spain, now available in most urban areas and expanding rapidly.

  • Providers: Movistar, Orange, Vodafone, MásMóvil, Digi, Lowi, Finetwork, O2
  • Advantages: Stable speeds up to 1 Gbps, ideal for business, streaming, and home offices
  • Disadvantages: Limited coverage in small villages and rural zones

2. Wi-Fi / Local Wireless Networks

Wireless internet from local providers or shared community networks — common in rural or coastal areas without fibre access.

  • Providers: Netllar, Eurona, Wimax, local ISPs
  • Advantages: Easy to install, no landline required, good range
  • Disadvantages: Requires clear signal from a nearby tower; speed depends on distance

3. ADSL (Copper Line Internet)

The traditional broadband option still used in smaller towns, gradually being replaced by fibre connections.

  • Providers: Movistar, Jazztel, Orange
  • Advantages: Wide availability across Spain
  • Disadvantages: Slower speeds (10–30 Mbps), less reliable for heavy data use

4. Satellite Internet

An excellent choice for remote or mountain areas where no wired network is available.

  • Providers: Starlink, Hispasat, Eurona, Konnect
  • Advantages: Works anywhere in Spain, even off-grid
  • Disadvantages: Higher setup costs and possible signal delay in bad weather
